At Community Living Trust we believe that every individual is entitled to have a real life, a real home, and real friends. We provide people with skills and support needed to control their own lives and shape their own destinies.
The Community Living Trust operates across the central North Island and has specialised services in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato areas.
Our primary source of funding is the Ministry of Health
Community Living Trust was formed in April 1989 by the Waikato Area Health Board, now the Waikato District Health Board. It was initially established to manage the transition of people with intellectual disabilities from Tokanui Hospital into their communities. On behalf of the Area Health Board, Community Living Trust helped people with an intellectual disability and their families/whanau decide what they wanted in the community and then purchased this for them. A number of new providers were established as a result.
In 1999, responsibility for the planning and funding of community placements was transfered to the Regional Health Authority and Community Living Trust stopped offering a case-management service. These days Community Living Trust is now firmly a service provider. Since 1990, our behaviour support, family, residential, vocational, and therapy services have continued to grow.
